Classic Album Sundays NYC presents Miles Davis "Kind of Blue"
Sunday, February 3, 2013 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM (EST)
After endorsing the rhythm & blues inflected hard bop early in his career, by the late 50's trumpeter Miles Davis was moving toward a modal style of playing. This was first exhibited on the title track of his "Milestones" album in 1958 but it was his 1959 album, Kind of Blue, when Davis totally gave himself over to it. Featuring the all star line up of Davis, John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley, Bill Evans, Paul Chambers and Jimmy Cobb, "Kind of Blue" has become one of the best-selling jazz albums of all time. This landmark LP helped change jazz forever and also influenced rock artists such as Pink Floyd and soul producers such as Quincy Jones.
Join us at 5 pm for the musical lead up where we will feature music that inspired and music that was contemporary to this classic album. Then at 7 pm, WBAI's Liquid Sound Lounge host Jeannie Hopper will present the story behind the album. Then its lights down and volume up when we listen to the album from beginning to end on vinyl on our audiophile hi-fi which includes a Rega Apheta MC Cartridge, Rega P9 Turntable, Moon 310 LP Phono Preamp, Moon P7 Line Preamp, Cardas balanced cabling, Mark Levinson No. 334 Power Amp and 4 Klipschorns.
